Tour the New Library
The expansion design - by local architect Michael Esmay - was based on two fundamentals: create a building compatible with the distinct charm of the village of Nyack, and echo the historic Carnegie entrance room to provide a continuity of design. The plan will attach a three-story addition to the side of the library, preserving the original Carnegie building while nearly doubling the interior space to 30,000 square feet.

Current plans are the most ambitious since the Library’s founding. The following are some highlights which will be included in the expansion.

Lower-Level (view floor plan)
A new Teen Room will provide middle school students with space they can call their own and offer quality programming to identify and nurture their individual talents. The Library is committed to providing services that will profoundly impact young people’s lives and offer a bridge from formal education to self-direction and lifelong learning.

A new Educational Computer Classroom will be an essential resource for our community.  It will provide Internet access, which is critically needed by many community members.  We will provide invaluable training to seniors, equipping them with the skills they need in this technological age.  We will also offer much-needed training to enhance skills beneficial in the workplace, as well as equipment and opportunities for those interested in increasing their personal computer skills.

A Special Purpose Computer Room will be of tremendous benefit to those working on specialized projects, particularly for small businesses, not-for-profits and schools.  It will enable patrons to produce brochures and other printed materials and create websites by utilizing PCs equipped with software for advanced photo editing, desktop publishing and website design.

First Floor (view floor plan)
The Nyack Library takes great pride in nurturing children’s hearts and minds. Scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009, the new Children’s Library will offer a magical 4,400 square feet of space, almost twice the size of the existing children’s room. It will provide much larger collections of fiction and nonfiction, educational games and crafts, as well as up-to-date technology. Early childhood literacy skills will be promoted through new programs for exploration, discovery and growth. The Children’s Library will continue to reinforce the Library’s goal of instilling a lifelong love of reading and learning in the youngest members of our community.

Second-Floor (view floor plan)
The second floor of The Nyack Library will host a stunning new Reference Area for Adults arranged in an inviting "marketplace" layout.  Updated and expanded collections will be available with easy access to computers for research.  Reading tables along the east wall will overlook a stunning view of the Hudson River.

A new cafe will be provided for the convenience of our patrons.
